Dermal Fillers

Dermal filler injections consist of a gel like substance called hyaluronic acid which: is a naturally occurring substance forming a large part of our skin, is involved in wound repair and plays a major role in skin hydration.

As we age our levels of hyaluronic acid reduce in our skin which results in the fat compartments of the face losing volume and the ligaments that keep them in place becoming weaker.

This leads to the formation of: a sagging appearance, facial lines, wrinkles and skin folds.

A major feature of hyaluronic acid is its ability to bind water together like a sponge thus resulting in skin hydration, re-volumising and creating a lifting effect when injected into the skin.

Within the UK there are over 60 brands of dermal fillers (many more worldwide) with some having a better safety profile than others. Most dermal fillers brands have several products in their range from treating softer lines and lips to more firmer fillers which provide volume and shape to the skin.
