What Is An Anti-Wrinkle Treatment?
Botulinum toxin Type A is a naturally occurring protein which is produced by the bacterium Clostridium botulinum.
It has many uses in the medical world to help for example manage the symptoms of Cerebal Palsy, migraines and bladder dysfunction. We use it in Aesthetics to help treat facial lines on expression.
Botulinum toxin Type A when injected using a fine needle into the target muscle works by temporarily blocking the nerve signal and as a result weakens the muscle action. This muscle weakening helps to treat the appearance of facial lines on expression. In the UK there are many brands available of Botulinum toxin Type A which include Botox® , Bocouture®, Azzalure®, Dysport® and Xeomin®

Anti-Wrinkle Injections Pre & Post Treatment Advice
Pre Anti-Wrinkle Injection Advice
Avoiding any alcohol intake 48 hours prior to treatment. Also avoid supplements such as: Fish oils, Ginkgo Biloba, Vitamin E, St John’s wort and excessive amounts of ginger/garlic for at least 3 days prior to treatment helps to minimise the risk of bruising.
Post Anti-Wrinkle Injection Advice
- Remain upright for 2 hours.
- Do small extra contractions of the muscles treated every 20 minutes for the first hour.
- Wash your hands immediately post procedure
- For the next 24 hours please avoid touching or rubbing the injected areas and applying make-up directly onto the injected sites.
- Avoid alcohol for the next 24-48 hours after your treatment
- Avoid ibuprofen/anti-inflammatory medication/aspirin and vitamin E for 24-48 hours after treatment to reduce the risk of bruising/bleeding.
- For the next 24-48 hours you should avoid hot showers, strenuous exercise as this may increase discomfort and swelling.
- For 1 week you should avoid exposure to UV light and excessive heat i.e. sauna, steam rooms and sun beds.
- When cleansing, avoid pressure and use gentle strokes away from the eyes.
- Avoid facial massages or electrical stimulation/laser treatments/chemical peels of the face for the next 2 weeks.
- Avoid wearing tight caps or garments in the area that has been injected.
- Please also change your pillow case today and clean your glasses/sunglasses and mobile phones to minimise the risk of infection.
